Back in the 90’s, a Nintendo64 game was released called GoldenEye. The game was based off of the James Bond 007 movie GoldenEye. GoldenEye was released in 1995 and was about a powerful satellite system that falls into the hands of Alec Trevelyan, AKA Agent 006
This movie was one of the best James Bond movies ever made and the video game became an absolute smash hit creating a cultish mass formation psychosis among Nintendo64 gameplayers. This game was played obsessively for several years in the 90s alongside endless overnight pizza parties. For those who spent some of their childhood playing this game know all too well how amazing this period of time in history was for gamers.
There are rumors and speculation circulating that there will be soon a GoldenEye 007 Remastered game in the very near future.
VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb is the latest source of the most recent rumors. The oft-cited reporter said on his GrubbSnax video show: “I think that Microsoft is going to be the one to announce that first.”
There are currently complicated rights and also legal issues that have to be navigated prior to release. There are many stakeholders that would have to agree to unified terms for this to actually happen. Yes it’s possible, but very complicated and possibly unlikely.
When Grubb broke this rumor story in February 2022, he was quoted as saying: “I think this game is probably coming pretty soon, I’m thinking next couple of weeks.”
If Grubb’s prediction comes true, then, we could be looking at a GoldenEye 007 Remastered release date in the first half of 2022.
