The Supreme Court struck down a NY gun law on June 23rd, 2022 requiring citizens to demonstrate “proper cause” to carry concealed firearms outside their homes. The court voted 6-3, arguing that the 108-year-old state law violated the Constitution’s 14th Amendment by preventing “law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their right to keep and bear arms,” according to the opinion. The ruling could make it easier for people in at least a half-dozen states to legally carry loaded firearms in public.
